How it all started
Imagine thinking you were ready to take early retirement, selling up moving countries and boom you weren’t ready at all!
What then… Nothing for it, we needed to find new interests in our new home Spain. All of this took place at the start of the worldwide pandemic. Paul who has always embraced nomadic travel, continued to work remotely. Nicki who had retired from her role as an Operations & HR director to make the move to Spain needed to find her next project.
We already had one holiday home in Spain which we were at the time, staying in and we decided to set up another holiday rental in our new home, in the mountains of Andalucia. That second townhouse with private pool became another popular holiday rental. What now then?
Luckily, we fell upon another townhouse that needed development, this time a larger property ideal for group travellers. This kept Nicki who has a passion for interior design busy for a couple of years as the older white pueblo houses were bought back to life and became successful holiday rentals. But when that was done, what next? Here we were again, thinking what now then? The yearn to travel was as strong as ever.
Where we are now
So here we are Paul and Nicki, two 50 somethings who met second time around in our 40’s. Having a real desire to travel, enough money to do so with plenty of places left on our bucket list.
Fortunately they were very similar, the places that is! You see Nicki likes the luxury side of travel, glamourous travel if you will (it’s often said she should have been born in the 50’s). Not a fan of all-inclusive resort-based holidays and as a bare minimum insists on a roof over her head and a comfy bed. Paul on the other hand will sleep anywhere, even standing up. Like Nicki he wants to see real places not the usual tourist traps. But his favourite thing is a bargain, As luck would have it, he is also outstanding at sourcing great discounts.
With both of us being pretty good at compromise, our travels lead us to some interesting places where our accommodation needs meet somewhere in the middle of our opposing styles.
We are equally happy on a city break, a far-flung beach, travelling off the beaten track, be that in Europe or wider flung terrotories or in Louis our motorhome. Sometimes we will travel with our dogs Bowie and Coco, so we will be sharing with you great dog friendly destinations too.
How did the name Sassy Travel Guide come about?
So it is very hard to decide what to call your blog. For much of her youth Nicki was referred to as Sassy pants. It kind of stuck. When Googling the word Sassy, the first search offered this description!
“Lively, bold and full of spirit, cheeky”
That is exactly how we wanted our travel to be. Having had to do the more mundane travel with families etc in our younger years – we’re now ready to travel ‘where we want, when we want, how we want’ if there is a comfortable bed of course. Woohoo!
What will we be covering in our blog?
We want to appeal to many but not watering it down, our blog needs to be a useful resource so we will be focusing about our kind of travel. The subjects we can bring some insight to:-
• Van life travel
• Couples travel
